THE PURPOSE OF THE AWARD IS TO ELIMINATE A DANGEROUS AT-GRADE RAIL CROSSING ON THE SECOND BUSIEST RAIL CORRIDOR IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA WHERE MAINLINE PASSENGER AND FREIGHT TRACKS INTERSECT WITH HIGHWAY AND PEDESTRIAN RIGHTS-OF-WAY AT WEST DORAN STREET. THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A GRADE SEPARATION STRUCTURE THAT LINKS THE CITIES OF LOS ANGELES AND GLENDALE. THE CURRENT AT-GRADE CROSSING RUNS EAST-WEST ACROSS THE RAILROAD CORRIDOR. THE OUTCOME OF PROJECT DELIVERY WILL BE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A STRUCTURE THAT IS REPLACING THE AT-GRADE CROSSING AT DORAN STREET. THE STRUCTURE WILL GO NORTH AT THE INTERSECTION OF WEST SAN FERNANDO ROAD AND DORAN STREET. THE STRUCTURE WILL EXTEND UNDER THE STATE ROUTE 134 FREEWAY BEFORE CONNECTING TO THE EXISTING FAIRMONT AVENUE BRIDGE, WHICH RUNS EAST-WEST OVER THE RAILROAD CORRIDOR. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES OF THE PROJECT WILL PEDESTRIANS, HIGHWAY ROADWAY USERS, AND RAILROAD USERS. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO MEET LOCAL COMMUNITY REQUIREMENTS TO HAVE TWO EMERGENCY RESPONDER POINTS OF ACCESS INTO THE ATWATER VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD.
