What The Buildout collects, what it doesn't, and how subscriber and watchlist data is handled.
Who runs this site
The Buildout is operated by an independent solo developer. Communication: hello@thebuildout.site.
What we collect
- Email address — only if you subscribe to the weekly brief or daily watchlist alerts.
- An anonymous client id — a random string stored in your browser's
localStorage. We use it to tie a saved watchlist back to your email if and when you give us one. We never connect it to anything outside The Buildout. - Standard server logs — IP, user agent, and requested path, retained for at most 30 days for debugging and abuse mitigation. These are not used for any kind of profiling.
What we do not collect
- No third-party analytics, ad pixels, or tracking SDKs.
- No cross-site cookies.
- No fingerprinting.
- No selling of any data, ever.
Email
Subscriber emails are sent through Resend. Resend processes deliveries on our behalf and is the only third-party service that ever sees your email address. Every message has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is instantly honored.
Public data
All federal records on this site — awards, recipients, Federal Register documents, grant opportunities — come from the U.S. government's own public databases (USAspending.gov, Federal Register, Grants.gov, SAM.gov, agency RSS feeds). They are public records and may include the names of individuals who received federal funding. We do not redact public records.
Your rights
You can ask for your subscriber record to be deleted at any time by emailing hello@thebuildout.site. Unsubscribe links on every email do the same thing automatically.
Changes
If this policy materially changes, we'll note it at the top of this page and mention it in the next weekly brief.
